CM Plumbing & Heating is a plumbing and heating business based in Dublin. This policy explains what personal information we collect when you contact us or use this website, why we hold it, and what you can ask us to do with it.
We are the data controller of that information. In plain terms: we decide what is collected and we are responsible for looking after it.
1. What we collect
When you get in touch. Your name, phone number, email address if you give one, the address of the property, and whatever you tell us about the job. This comes from the quote form on this site, or from a call, text, WhatsApp or email.
When we carry out work. Details of the job, the parts fitted, photographs of the work where they are useful, dates of visits, and any follow-up needed.
When we invoice you. Billing details and a record of payment. We do not store card numbers. Card payments are handled by our payment provider, who processes them directly.
When you use this website. Standard technical information such as your IP address, device and browser type, and which pages you looked at. This is collected automatically through cookies and similar technology.
We do not collect special categories of data, and we do not ask for anything we do not need to price and carry out your job.
2. Why we use it, and our legal basis
To quote for and carry out your job. Legal basis: performance of a contract with you, or steps taken at your request before entering one.
To invoice you and keep proper accounts. Legal basis: legal obligation. Irish tax law requires us to keep records of what we invoiced and to whom.
To answer questions, arrange visits and deal with problems or warranty callbacks. Legal basis: performance of a contract, and our legitimate interest in running the business properly.
To keep the website working and secure. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in a site that functions and is not abused.
To send you occasional updates or offers. Legal basis: your consent, or our legitimate interest where you are an existing customer and the message relates to similar work. You can stop these at any time by replying and saying so.
To measure how the website is used and how people find us. Legal basis: your consent, given through the cookie banner.
3. Who we share it with
We do not sell your information, and we do not pass it to anyone for their own marketing.
We do share it with the businesses that help us operate:
- Shopify, who host this website and pass on the quote form submissions.
- Our email and phone providers, through which your messages reach us.
- Our accountant and our payment provider, for invoicing and bookkeeping.
- Suppliers and merchants, but only where a delivery has to go to your address.
- Analytics and advertising providers, where you have accepted those cookies.
We may also disclose information where the law requires it, for example to Revenue, or where we need it to establish or defend a legal claim.
4. How long we keep it
Enquiries that do not turn into work: twelve months, then deleted.
Job records and photographs: six years after the job, so that we can deal with warranty questions and show what was done.
Invoices and accounting records: six years, because tax law requires it.
Website and analytics data: up to twenty-six months, depending on the provider.
5. Cookies
This site uses cookies that are needed to make it work, and, if you accept them, cookies that measure how the site is used and how people found it. You choose when the banner appears, and you can change your mind at any time. Our cookie policy sets out what each one does.
6. Where your information is held
Some of our providers, including Shopify, store data outside the European Economic Area. Where that happens, the transfer is covered by the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses or another mechanism approved under data protection law.
7. Security
We keep your information on password-protected accounts and devices and limit access to what is needed to do the job. No system is perfect, but we take it seriously, and we would tell you and the Data Protection Commission promptly if something went wrong in a way that put you at risk.
Please do not send us bank details, PPS numbers or other sensitive information by text or email. We will never ask you for them that way.
8. Your rights
Under the General Data Protection Regulation you can ask us to:
- give you a copy of the information we hold about you;
- correct anything that is wrong;
- delete information we no longer have a reason to keep;
- restrict or object to how we use it;
- send a copy to you or to someone else in a portable format;
- stop marketing messages, which you can do at any time and without giving a reason.
Where we rely on your consent, you can withdraw it at any time. That does not affect anything we did before you withdrew it.
Email or ring us and we will respond within one month. We may need to check who you are first. There is no charge.
9. Complaints
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, tell us first and we will try to sort it out.
You also have the right to complain to the Data Protection Commission, 21 Fitzwilliam Square South, Dublin 2, D02 RD28, or through dataprotection.ie.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. The current version is always the one on this page, and the date at the top tells you when it last changed.
